Barnard Castle Town Council operates a 9 hole Mini Golf course on Scar Top opposite the entrance to the castle.
The course was redeveloped in 2013 with financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the North Pennine Dales Leader (ERDF/DEFRA), The Teesdale Action Partnership Neighbourhood Budget and Barnard Castle Town Council.
The course, in the conservation area of Scar Top and close proximity to the Castle itself, promotes the natural, cultural and heritage values of the local area and raise awareness of local visitor attractions. Find us on the map here.
Built into the course are carved stone monoliths representing local landmarks such as The Market Cross, The Witham Hall, The Bowes Museum, Egglestone Abbey, County Bridge and of course The Castle. The remaining 3 holes depict the River Tees, Hills and Dale and the Forces of Teesdale – representing ‘A Journey through Teesdale’.
The course was designed and constructed by Urban Crazy (Mobile) Ltd and Phil Townsend of Eggleston designed and created the six carved stone features. Both contractors worked closely together to achieve a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design.
